The past two days have been nothing short of dramatic. On Monday, we marked the half-decade milestone of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles with a competition to determine the best first-party game of this console generation. You were given eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to face off against each other, all heading towards a championship round where the top game from each platform would go head-to-head. There have been some incredibly close calls in the first two rounds, especially yesterday’s razor-thin votes. At this point, it's moment to decide the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of the championship on Thursday.

PlayStation 5 Contenders

On the PS5 side, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Maybe it should be no surprise considering that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök seems like a major shock. However, to reach the championship, it'll need to defeat the MVP of the PS5 generation: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, leaping past Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another title from the same studio!) to land in the semi-finals. Will Spider-Man defeat a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he fated to become a chibi cameo in the next Astro Bot game?

Xbox Series X Contenders

For Xbox Series X has been even juicier. Coming out on top from a more eclectic field of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the racing adventure title already, proving that a more specialized genre game earns to be on the same pedestal as traditional jump-and-run games and story-driven epics. Its last roadblock on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has shown itself as a crowd favorite, defeating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a much bigger game from an established IP that's synonymous with Xbox itself? If anyone can pull that off, it's probably Indy.
